In continuation of my despatch No. 26/a of
the 22nd. March on the subject of subsidiary coinage, I have the
honour to transmit to Your Excellency, herewith, a copy of a
despatch from the Viceroy in which he embodies a report on the
subject rendered to him by the Provincial Mint and the Board of
Reorganization. His Excellency's verbal assurance given to me
on March 22nd. that the coining of subsidiary coin would be
prohibited for a period of three months is confirmed. Dollars
are being coined meanwhile and at the end of the above-stated
period consideration will be given as to whether the period of
prohibition should be extended or not.
A copy of Sir Matthew Nathan's despatch
on this subject No. 53 of April 3rd., was sent to the Viceroy
on the 11th. ultimo.
